The mPhone is a telephone and signaller device, acting as an endpoint of a Wi-Fi and/or a specialized radio network. Together with the network the device provides a means of voice and text communication for the underground mines. The device is a part of the PORTAS DLF System.

The mPhone is equipped with the clear and readable LCD display, the sixteen-key touchpad, the decent speaker and an easy to use PTT button on the side of the enclosure. It is possible to connect the throat microphone (laryngophone) with the mPhone in order to enable communication in conditions of high levels of background noise.

The mPhone features:

  • digital radiotelephone DPMR
  • dual-mode 868MHz/2.4GHz
  • cooperation with WiFi VoIP
  • motion sensor and position sensor
  • the portable signaller feature
  • remote rescue features
  • all features of communicator
Rescue function

The mPhone device can be used as a remote rescue device.

Automatic alarm

In case of loss of consciousness by the user the mPhone device raise an audio visual-alarm.

The device constantly reads data from accelerometer and if it claims the phone does not move for a programmable period of time, the device raises an alarm – periodically plays back a siren sound and flashes with display backlight.

Raising the alarm can be disabled entirely or the user may choose a specific position in which the phone may be safely put away and not raise the alarm. The alarm can also be triggered remotely if the phone can be reached through the network.

Seeking for other devices

In case of collapse underground the missing person may be localised by the mPhone (that uses high frequency radio waves).

By using the main menu the user may launch an application that will seek for other mPhones, PORTAS UltraTAG’s localised around,  including received signal strength, which may be used for rough approximation of the distance between the devices.

S.O.S. button

The mPhone is equipped with an S.O.S. button which may be used in case of emergency situations in order to send an alarm. After pressing the S.O.S. button the mPhone will automatically transfer a pre-defined text message or dial a pre-defined number. Additionally the main server will immediately download from the device all the relevant data including ambient conditions and device movement during last few minutes.

ATEX certificate

The mPhone – telepfone and signaller device is available in two versions:

  • intrinsically safe – the device complies with ATEX restrictions and can be used in hazardous areas
  • non-intrinsically safe
